The injection moulding process for core insert and outsert moulding follows the same fundamental steps as standard injection moulding:

• An injection-moulding machine injects molten plastic pellets into a mould
• The plastic solidifies with the help of a cooling system
• The press opens and the plastic components are ejected from the mould
• The key difference: with core insert and outsert moulding, a metal component is first placed in the mould before closing it

Outsert moulding uses the same technique as core insert moulding, with one key distinction: the volume and/or surface area of the core insert is greater than that of the plastic, meaning only part of the insert is covered in plastic. In outsert moulding, plastic is injected against the insert rather than around it.
