Mold Core Insert Overview
Mold Core Inserts are essential components used to create castings with holes and complex internal geometries. Typically manufactured from refractory materials, with core sand being the most common, these inserts can also be produced using metal cores for specialized applications.
A mold core is a pre-formed dry sand mass created separately from the mold cavity. When positioned within the mold, it enables the production of casting shapes that cannot be achieved through standard molding techniques. The manufacturing process requires specialized equipment including core box patterns, baking systems, and handling facilities.
While small cores can sometimes be eliminated when holes will be machined later, properly designed cores feature sufficient thickness and avoid fragile or overhanging projections that could break during handling and transportation in the production process.
