The Pipette Tip Core Pin is a precision conical core component used in injection moulds for disposable laboratory consumables.
It forms the internal cavity of pipette tips and ensures accurate taper geometry, smooth surface finish, and dimensional stability across high-cavitation mould systems.
All core pins are manufactured strictly on a built-to-print / OEM basis, according to customer drawings and mould design requirements.
This conical core pin is designed for moulds producing disposable pipette tips and other thin-wall medical components.
The part features:
Long precision taper
High straightness shaft
Stable positioning base
Heat-treated tool steel structure
During injection moulding, molten plastic flows around the core pin to form the outer shape of the pipette tip. Any deviation in taper, straightness, or surface finish may directly affect sealing performance and dosing accuracy.
In multi-cavity moulds (8, 16, 32, 64, 96 cavities and above), core pins must maintain strict dimensional consistency to ensure identical product performance across all cavities.
Automated liquid handling tips
Thin-wall diagnostic parts
We focus on geometric accuracy, surface quality, and batch consistency.
Typical control capability:
Taper accuracy: controlled per drawing tolerance
Straightness: ≤ 0.005–0.01 mm
Concentricity: ≤ 0.005–0.01 mm
Surface finish: Ra ≤ 0.1–0.3 μm (working area)
Hardness: customised according to mould life requirement
The manufacturing process includes:
Precision CNC turning
Fine taper grinding
Cylindrical grinding
Controlled heat treatment
Full inspection using CMM
Matched batch production for high-cavitation moulds
Each batch is inspected and documented to maintain dimensional stability over long-term supply.
In medical and laboratory applications, part performance depends directly on core pin accuracy.
If the core pin has:
Slight taper variation
Surface roughness deviation
Straightness error
It may result in:
Poor sealing with the pipette
Inaccurate liquid dosing
Part deformation
Higher rejection rate
By maintaining tight geometric control and stable production processes, we help customers achieve:
Reliable sealing performance
Consistent dosing accuracy
Reduced mould maintenance
Long service life in high-volume production
For medical mould makers, stability and repeatability are more important than speed alone.

Complete technical information allows us to provide a precise evaluation and lead time.
Q1: Do you provide standard sizes?
No. All core pins are manufactured according to customer drawings.
Q2: What materials are commonly used?
Common tool steels include H13 (1.2344), S136, and other grades depending on wear resistance and production volume.
Q3: Can you ensure consistency across high-cavity moulds?
Yes. Core pins are produced and inspected as matched sets for multi-cavity systems.
Q4: How do you control taper accuracy?
We use precision taper grinding and CMM inspection to verify geometry against drawing requirements.
Q5: Can you meet high surface finish requirements?
Yes. Surface finish in the working area can reach Ra 0.1–0.3 μm depending on the specification.
Q6: Do you support long-term repeat orders?
Yes. We maintain dimensional records to ensure repeatability in future batches.
Send us your drawings for technical review. We will evaluate geometry, tolerances, and production feasibility.
